Harley Sarge (Whittaker) is a USDF Bronze and Silver medalist.

ABOUT

Harley was born in Maryland from a non horsey family but with a great love for animals. As a young girl she loved horses and started volunteering at a therapeutic riding facility where she caught the bug. She worked for lessons and took every opportunity to ride whatever she could get her hands on. Her journey began with a love of animals and a "horse girl phase" she never outgrew. She rode horses through grade school and fell in love with Dressage as a young teen- thanks to a working student position with Anecia Delduco of Oxford, PA. From there she went on to gain extensive experience working with a diverse range of horses at multiple barns, she was accepted into the IDA team at school in RI, worked as a vet tech at UEA, spent a season working with stallions, babies, and GP dressage horses in Poland, and then spent 4 years working for Silva Martin who she attributes much of her riding skill. She was head trainer at Kynynmont Connemaras, and then officially went out on her own as the owner and head trainer of HW Dressage. She is currently coached and mentored by Lauren Sammis of NJ.

MY PHILOSOPHY

I believe that every horse can benefit from dressage and learning how to use themselves better. Just as we as people can benefit from building muscle and learning how to do basic movements with correct form for the purpose of longevity. For me it's about the journey, not the destination. I truly enjoy establishing the basics following the training scale and carrying on through the levels to establish a happy and healthy athlete. If we want our horses to be athletes we have to treat them as such. Although my goals are to ride and compete at the top of the sport, my biggest concern is to continue to learn and grow as a horsemen and to do right by my horses and clients. Know the goal, create the plan, and enjoy the hell out of the partnership and journey. We are so lucky to get to work with these animals everyday!
